The Birth of CML Vision
In 1999, while in South Africa, William had an encounter with the transforming love of Christ. He subsequently answered the call to ministry and in the year 2000, joined Rhema Bible Training Centre (RBTC) to be equiped for effective ministry.
In 2002, during his final year at RBTC, God gave William the vision of Students' Ministry. At first it was just a strong inner sense that there was a great opportunity for ministry in the learning institutions back in Kenya. It would involve preaching and Teaching the Word of God in the Christian Unions (CU's) and distributing gospel literature. Excited by this "revelation" of opportunity to share the transforming love of Christ, he documented this vision and forwarded it to the then Dean and Assistant Dean of RBTC for consideration and advice. At the time, William was not considering returning to Kenya, and so he did not think the vision was for him. He therefore suggested that the RBTC send somebody to Kenya to investigate the feasibility of this opportunity.
William never got a direct response from the RBTC Leadership. He continued to stay in Johannesburg after his graduation during which time he served as an Usher at Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, Johannesburg until September 2004 when he went back to Kenya.
While in Kenya, William became involved in Students ministry; ministering in schools, joining various teams on missions to schools as well as co-ordinating missions to schools. During this time he continued to passionately share the vision with other believers and it progressively became clear that the vision of Students' ministry was God's purpose for his life. The vision has evolved into a unique ministry facilitating the Holistic development of learners.
In August 2006, with the support of other believers who embraced the vision, William decided to formalize the ministry by submitting an application for registration of The Christian Mission to Learners (CML) according to the Laws of Kenya. The application met with approval and CML was officially registered in April 2007.
CML's Approach
Recognizing that learners are spirit beings, living in physical bodies and have souls (1 Thessalonians 5:23), CML addresses the needs of the whole person. As a non-political, non-denominational Christian Evangelical Organization, CML is committed to participate with other partners in the holistic development of learners in response to the Great Commission.
First and foremost, we desire to disciple learners thereby assisting in bringing them to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and facilitate their maturity in Christ. Through Christian Counseling and Guidance we give hope to learners, thereby facilitating their emotional deliverance, development and stability. As the larger percentage of the learners are youth, we recognize that they face various challenges, dilemmas and problems that are associated with their dynamic stage of personal development. Christ-centered counselling therefore becomes a crucial component of our ministry approach.
We believe that all human needs are truly met in Christ. The Word of God in the Gospel of Matthew encourages us to "...seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to us as well." Our holistic approach is based on this foundation. We believe that true transformation starts with spiritual transformation... transformation of the inner man. As we focus on this core aspect of the students' being, we also minister to them in their other areas of need, including social, physical, financial, emotional, vocational and life-skill needs.
Our prayer is that the learners may develop and prosper in their whole being even as their souls prosper (3 John 1:2).
